Aspen Valley Hospital was designated as a Level III Trauma Center by the State of Colorado Department of Public Health Environment (CDPHE) in 1999, and recently earned its redesignation in 2019.
As a Level III Trauma Center, the hospital has an ER physician in-house 24/7 and a general surgeon on call 24/7. In addition, the hospital has an expanded scope in orthopaedic services with an orthopaedic surgeon on call 24/7 as well as availability of radiology and internal medicine experts.
The trauma program oversees a multidisciplinary program and provides continuing trauma education to our clinical providers. We participate in the state trauma system, and at the local and regional level with Emergency Medicine and Trauma Advisory Councils.
Aspen Valley Hospital participates in local community events like Bike to Work Day, Aspen Rotary’s Ducky Derby, Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club’s 4th of July picnic and National Ski Patrol Safety Month to provide helmets and head injury prevention education to the community.
As one of the most progressive and comprehensive brain injury programs on the Western Slope, the TBI Program allows our team of physicians and therapists to create individualized programs for each patient.
Aspen Valley Hospital’s Trauma Services are focused on preventative strategies to keep our community safe. Our helmet program provides helmets and helmet fittings to adults and children who are in need.
This program provides prevention training and classes to our community for free. Trainings are held in person at the hospital, at public events in the upper Roaring Fork Valley and virtually on Zoom meetings.
Aspen Ambulance District, located on the Aspen Valley Hospital campus, provides a wide range of services from first aid care at community events to life-saving treatment throughout Pitkin County. The ambulance service is staffed with a skilled team of EMTs, paramedics and critical care paramedics offering leading-edge pre-hospital medicine to the residents and visitors to the greater Aspen area.
As a designated Level III trauma center, Aspen Valley Hospital stands ready to help in case of an emergency. Our board-certified ER physicians are available 24/7, and their expertise along with a full scope of diagnostic capabilities ensure the best care when it is needed most. Our large trauma room is equiped with leading technolgies and all ED RNs have further training in trauma care.
